Company History

In 2001, while consulting at a supply chain management company, founders Jim Galley & Bob Magown observed the inefficiencies in the current systems of monitoring cargo within the supply chain. The information that was supplied by the service provider was typically historical, event based data prone to manual errors. We developed the concept of a cargo centric, remote reporting tool that would allow the cargo owner to control the information and receive timely, accurate, actionable data. With technology, we could build a tool that could automate the process of providing global visibility/security integrity and allow the cargo owner to apply it to multiple service providers and receive it in a consistent format.

By March 2002, the design was completed and we saw the opportunity to apply for a Port Security Grant based on the concept that "chain of custody" and tamper notification of inbound containers would significantly reduce the risk of a container detonating a WMD within a U.S Port. We were awarded $875,000 through the Port Security grant Program in June 2002 to build proof of concept prototypes for a "Satellite based remote reporting electronic seal".

Over the next 8 months we finalized the design, supervised the manufacturing of the Cargo Tracking Units (CTU) and architected the backend software of our platform. In April-May 2003 we engaged four commercial companies (Hewlett Packard, Bose Corporation, Hasbro Inc. and Jungbunzlauer) in a pilot program that mounted the CTUs to their container cargo and provided in-transit visibility and security integrity throughout their supply chain (to learn more about our efforts. click field test results). The trade routes chosen were imports/exports between North America and Asia, Europe and South America. The CTUs performed as designed and in some cases, exceed our expectations. In June the final report was submitted to the grant administrators on time and within the original budget.

NaviTag Technologies is currently engaged in negotiations with several strategic partners for manufacturing, distribution and financing of the next version of the CTU. We are accepting orders for 2004 production units and are prepared to discuss a customized sensor array to meet your organization’s specific needs.

NaviTag Technologies offers a unique cargo centric supply chain visibility/security tool that allows the cargo owner to control and manage the information. The cargo owner can now monitor their cargo globally by simply mounting/activating the CTU and receiving the data based on their customized profile.
